No: 108, 21 April 2019, Press Release Regarding the Terrorist Attacks in Sri Lanka

Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Dışişleri Bakanlığı 21.04.2019

We are deeply saddened to hear that many civillians have lost their lives and many others were wounded as a result of terrorist attacks targeting some churches and hotels in Sri Lanka this morning.

These heinous attacks carried out on the Easter day ceremonies, are deliberate acts of provocation. From this aspect, they have no difference from the recent terrorist attacks committed in New Zealand against Muslims praying in mosque.

Targeting hotels, on the other hand, reveals the ugly face of terrorism, that does not distinguish and aims to undermine tourism. Whether any Turkish citizen has been harmed or not is still being investigated in collaboration with the relevant authorties.

These heinous attacks once more reveal the need for joint struggle against extremism and terrorism.

We strongly condemn these terrorist attacks, convey our condolences to the friendly Government and people of Sri Lanka and wish speed recovery to the wounded.

Turkey will continue to act in solidarity with the people and Government of Sri Lanka in their fight against terrorism.
